December FUN

A crazy ice storm started our December.  We heard the weather was going to get bad all week and that by Thursday freezing rain would start in the afternoon.  NONE of us ever thought it would have been the way it turned out... especially for living in Texas!!  It was pretty wild!

When Texans hear "ice" they all flock to the grocery stores and clear the shelves because everyone knows that no one down here can drive in those conditions... so we all try to stay off the roads.  I ran a few errands Thursday morning and around 1:00 went to the grocery store. The isles of bread and milk had very little left on the shelves. Yep, everyone is stocking up again! "Crazy Texas people," I thought to myself! Although I WAS one of them with my list to get us through the entire weekend without leaving the house! (ha) By the time I left the store the freezing rain had started to blow in...earlier than expected and one side of my car was iced.   I picked the kids up from school and there was already talk of no school the next day.  For 12 hours it rained...freezing rain... and we woke up to frozen EVERYTHING!!! It was BEAUTIFUL! It looked like it snowed all night long! The kids couldn't get their coats and gloves and boots on fast enough!!  We warned them that it looks like snow but it was frozen and very slippery. That didn't stop them one bit!  They had the time of their life! A few tears because the falls hurt, but definately a kids dream to stay home and play! This storm hit most of the US and it was intense all over. It became known as "Icemageadon," and "Icepocolips."  We played outside as long as we could stand the cold, then came in for hot cocoa, baked potato soup and warm baths...then it was back outside again! When I wasn't cooking, I was rounding up the laundry! Over the weekend the weather got colder.  When monday rolled around school was cancelled again. The sun started shining and melting quite a bit but night time just re-froze whatever had melted and stayed wet. School was cancelled for a third day! Basically all of north texas shut down for 5 days! WOW...This was crazy - lol.  Fun times!! It was a nice break to stay home and be cozy before the big rush of the holidays!

Here's to

PINE COVE WINTERFEST
The weekend after Icemagaedon was Pine Cove Winterfest for Miss Lily. This girl was excited beyond measure!!! We drove Lily to Pine Cove on a rainy Friday night. We met Allie at the cabin, made the girls bunk beds, put their toiletry bags and towels in the bathroom cubbies and left the girls with lots of girlie excitement :)  It was a very quick weekend but a good taste of what to expect this summer for a fun filled week of Pine Cove! We picked the girls up at noon on Sunday and ate lunch in Tyler with the Reeds.  So glad the girls got to enjoy their weekend together Pine Cove style!!!

My cousin Joni sent her daughter to Winterfest too! We didn't even know until she saw a post on facebook! Ha! Shaye and Brooklyn at pick up waiting on big sister Carly.

Lily and her teacher, Mrs. Fielding

LOL...Look at Lily in this picture....Well, right in the middle of the class parties the fire alarm sounded and the entire school was evacuated! Nothing like a little adventure with the kids and parents on the last day before Christmas break! :) Oh...nothing major happened...someone over cooked popcorn and the alarm went off. Thank goodness it was just that!!!
